Thoughts on Jack Ryan as a whole....
So with season 4, Jack Ryan comes to an end. In the end, the show has always struck me as a competent, enjoyable, espionage thriller with likable characters, but fairly by the numbers in terms of execution. There has never been anything that has stuck me as 'wow' about it, but I have always enjoyed it. I think Season 1 was probably still my favorite. I think Season 1 and Season 3 were the best seasons. Season 4 was good, but due to reduced episode count, it felt less fleshed out than previous seasons. I didn't quite completely understand the various intricacies of the criminal organization. Season 2 was the weakest because I think it fell into the tropes of Jack Ryan seeking revenge, and in general the story was the least interesting. I think the show benefited by a likable group of actors in key roles. John Krasinski was consistently strong. He is very innately likable and doesn't come off as a superhero. Wendell Pierce as Jack Greer was excellent throughout. Michael Kelly as Mike November was a standout for me. Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth Wright lent a formidable presence in the last 2 seasons. Michael Pena was a big boost for the show in the final season, as Domingo Chavez. Abbie Cornish had a relatively thankless role as Cathy Mueller but she also leaves a mark and she has good chemistry with John Krasinski and was able to be seamless reintegrated into the show, after being absent for seasons 2 and 3. All in all, I quite liked the show. I am glad it didn't overstretch its welcome, even though I would have enjoyed another season.

WIP excerpt: Smallville does not approve of Clark Kent's parenting style.
Cathy Mueller is mad at Clark. He has no idea why, but she's going to absolutely no effort to hide it.
"How's your boy, Clark?" she asks frostily as she bags the hardware store purchases he's making for Pa. They're visiting the farm this weekend and Clark's promised to help him with some repairs to the barn.
"Oh, Jon's fine. He's doing really well in school right now," Clark attempts, trying to smile at her in an attempt to disarm her a bit. Usually she's not quite so . . . touchy. For some reason, though, Cathy only seems to get madder.
"Do tell," she says in that same frosty tone, and thumps his filled bag very loudly on the counter. "And how's Conner doing in school?"
"You'd have to ask Ma or Pa about that, I'm afraid, I don't really keep up with the kid's grades," Clark says with a wry laugh.
"Do tell," Cathy says again, and somehow it's even frostier than before.
Clark is a little concerned.

Thirty years after serving together in the Vietnam War, Larry, Sal and Richard, reunite for a different type of mission: to bury Doc’s son, a young Marine killed in Iraq. Here's Why Jack Ryan Season 5 Isn't Happening
The fourth season of Jack Ryan, the action drama series based on the bestselling novels by Tom Clancy, just came to an end on Prime Video. The finale delivered an explosive end to its season-long intrigue while also wrapping up the ongoing storylines of Jack Ryan (John Krasinski), James Greer (Wendell Pierce), Cathy Mueller (Abbie Cornish), Mike November (Michael Kelly), Changchien (Louis Ozawa)…

The new Jack Ryan trailer leaves me wanting a beautiful reunion scene between Cathy and Jack with running to each other, a forehead touch, and I love you’s at the very end of the season when he’s no longer undercover. Please Amazon prime let them get back together.

WIP excerpt for yesdangerpls; Smallville does not approve of Clark Kent's parenting style. (( chrono || non-chrono ))
“I’ll tell them you said hello,” Clark says as he smiles at Cathy again and immediately gets outright glowered at for it.
“Why don’t you tell Conner we all said hello,” she says frostily, then stalks away into the back without so much as a “goodbye”, which is practically a declaration of war in Smallville, and Clark . . . isn’t really sure what to think.
Definitely isn’t sure what to think.
“Uh, thank you, Cathy!” he calls after her, because that’s the usual script they follow. Cathy doesn’t even look back at him; just disappears between the shelves. She didn’t even tell him to say anything to Ma and Pa.
That’s–definitely not normal behavior from her. Smallville isn’t without its curmudgeons and malcontents and just overall rude people, obviously, but Cathy Mueller isn’t one of them. Normally she’ll talk his ear off any time she sees him catching him up on her life and how her boys and her sister’s girls are doing, at minimum, and if he gives her the time he’ll hear all three of her husbands’ full life stories from cradle to grave and every single local bit of gossip that’s dropped since he was last in town, as if she doesn’t know Ma hasn’t already told him everything decent to hear on their weekly calls anyway.
He doesn’t know what’s wrong, but given she brought up Conner twice . . . well, the kid’s well-intentioned and has a good heart, but he’s also an incorrigible flirt with very little sense of propriety and timing and an unfortunate tendency for property destruction. Clark’s not sure the kid even understands why other people value property, sometimes. You’d think the kid had never owned a damn thing in his life himself, he swears.
He supposes he’ll have to talk to Ma and Pa, see if they know what he might’ve done to set Cathy off. She’s nearly their age, so a little old for even Conner to have been inappropriate at, and her kids are all boys, so it can’t have been any of them either. Though he supposes Conner might’ve made a pass at one of her nieces, or maybe Misty Woodhouse–she’s been dating Cathy’s boy Ben since junior high. Or maybe just a girl her Davis is interested in. Trevor’s still in junior high himself, though, so he’s probably not in Conner’s current social circle. Clark isn’t sure which kids Conner’s actually been hanging out with, but given his usual behavior and interests, it’s probably mostly been the cheerleaders.
Yes, that’d be enough to cause some friction with the local boys, he thinks to himself with a resigned little sigh, taking Pa’s shopping back out to the farm truck and loading it up. He could’ve flown, obviously, and gotten here in the blink of an eye, but he likes making the drive to town and back. It’s nostalgic; clears his head. Gives him a bit of time to think.
Unfortunately, this particular drive he’s apparently going to be spending trying to figure out what the hell Conner did to set off Cathy Mueller enough to take it out on him.

▶︎ Facebook: 651 000 Aufrufe, 40 500 Reaktionen, 5500 Kommentare, 4800-mal geteilt
▶︎ Twitter: 182 000 Aufrufe, 10 800 Likes, 1700 Retweets, 1100 Kommentare
▶︎ Instagram: 490 000 Aufrufe, 156 000 Likes, 5100 Kommentare
Lisa Müller schreibt: „We'll stay strong together“ (Wir halten zusammen). Tischtennis-Europameister Dimitrij Ovtcharov (30) postet: „Stay strong“ (Bleib stark). Ski-Star Felix Neureuther (34): „Immer schön Statements von Funktionären zu hören, die keine Ahnung vom Sport haben! Weiter kämpfen. Ich drück dir wie immer die Daumen.“ „Streif“-Held Thomas Dreßen (25) schickt zur Unterstützung ein „Applaus“-Emoji. Mario Götze unterlegt seinen Tweet mit drei „Kraftarm“-Emojis und Cathy Hummels schreibt: „100 %“.

The Gravity of Tempered Grace (part four)
[part one] - [part two] - [part three]
[Part 4: Make a Meaning of the Poison in this Place]
The Life and Times of Jane the Queen, Chapter 11 - The Pacifist Queen
“Jane was always regarded as a peacemaker in Henry’s court, known for her gentle and forgiving nature. She even managed to reconcile Henry with his eldest daughter Mary, who was twenty years old at the time, and whose mother, Catherine of Aragon, had died only five months before Jane and Henry wed. Jane was very fond of the Lady Mary, welcoming her into the family as if she were her own flesh-and-blood daughter.
Jane’s motto in court was “bound to obey and serve.” She didn’t often argue with Henry on political matters, concerning herself more with court life and producing her heir. Part of her legacy will always be tied to her quiet, docile nature.”

musical theatre moments that break me :)
the way aaron tveit (specifically his line delivery of this for some reason) sings “i wanna live a life and not just play a part” and “im tired of living on the stage a life that’s only on the page” (catch me if you can)
it gets extra good in his final performance of the song, here
phillipa soo in the entirety of burn and its quiet uptown (hamilton)
oh also idk why but her version of no one else makes me sad its so pretty (the great comet of 1812)
jeremy jordan’s opening verses to this world will remember us,,, special points to the way he sings “could outsmart the smartest lawman” and “my name is gonna make the history books” (bonnie and clyde)
jeremy jordan’s line delivery for “every kid will idolize clyde barROW” (bonnie and clyde)
also the way this part of too late to turn back now is sung,,
“yOU AINT GOIN NOWHERE” “CLYDE I MEANT WHAT I SAid”,, POWER
the way andrew rannells sings “how do i start not to love you” while staring at marvin, thank you (falsettos)
also the first time whizzer/marvin say i love you to each other
the fact that marvin tells his son “i never wanted to love you, i just wanted to see your face in mine” after slapping his ex wife? when his son’s biggest hang up is that he resembles marvin way too much? jesus (falsettos)
cathy talking about how that guy she dated: “he blew me off with a heartfelt letter i thought i can do better than that” and then jaime doing exactly that (the last five years)
the i am the one/ i am the one reprise and perfect for you/ hey 3 perfect for you reprise lyric changes/ context changes!!! incredible stunning perfect gorgeous (next to normal)
the roughness in aaron tveit’s live rendition of roxanne (it’s so emotional? i didn’t think roxanne would work with JUST christian but. it does)
drew gehling and jessie mueller’s harmonies in bad idea as they take their wedding rings off and decide to have the affair,, heartbreaking+pretty (waitress)
also renee rapp/antonio cipriano singing bad idea
honestly any harmonies in waitress r guaranteed to make ur heart Break
think: the entirety of you matter to me (waitress)
oh also the cut last five years song ‘i could be in love with someone like you’ explains SO much about jaime and makes everything sadder
here’s a version i really like,,,,,, (x)
it was replaced by shiksa goddess fyi
